Royal Copenhagen porcelain marks date to the late 1770's. Ever since, all or nearly all Royal Copenhagen porcelain marks contain three blue waves that up until 1870 were added by hand. The three waves are symbols for the three straits surrounding Denmark: the Great and Little Belts and the Sound.
Royal Copenhagen porcelain marks also feature above the three waves some form of crown and sometimes the word "Denmark".
